The Lamat REU program aims to increase retention, graduation rates, and PhD admission for students enrolled in two-year or four-year colleges. Program participants engage in inquiry-based learning in astronomy and planetary sciences using state-of-the-art astrophysical simulations as a common pillar. We accept applications from all undergraduate students, but we particularly encourage students from community colleges to apply.

If selected, participants are strongly encouraged to attend our “Winter Science Computational Boot Camp” that prepares them for the summer program. This year’s boot camp will be held January 10-12, 2024 at UC Santa Cruz. A stipend, transporation, and lodging will be provided for boot camp participants. Alternative structures of support will be provided for participants that are engaged in classes during the boot camp.

Lamat’s eight-week summer program will run from June 30 to August 24, 2024. A stipend will be provided for participation in Lamat.

Applications for Lamat Summer 2024 are now closed.
